As many of you know, the K-2 teachers at Tritt are currently being trained by a new phonics program. The program trainer recently suggested that students each have their own phonics binder to better organize all the materials we give them. After thinking about this, I agree that a small binder would be the most productive way to organize the handouts used within the program. If you are able, I am asking that you send in a 1/2 inch binder with 4 dividers by Friday, 1/10. This will be very helpful as I currently have scheduled that we will set them up this day. Please let me know if you are unable to get the binder by this date. This week we are learning: Math- We will focus on fact fluency with addition and subtraction strategies within 20. Students will practice decomposing numbers, making ten, and creating an easier problem, etc. Reading/ELA- We will refocus on asking and answering questions with both fiction and nonfiction texts. Phonics - We will review capitalization, and we will continue to explore vowel variant digraphs and diphthongs (au,aw, ou/ow, oo/ew, oi/oy). This week we will focus on Unit 14 Variant Vowel /oo/ brew, blew, soup, group, blue, clue, cashew, cartoon, pursue. Writing- Students will share from their published informational pieces and create their New Year's Goals. Science - We will review seasons with our seasonal tree observations. Students will compare the tree now (winter) with the previous observations from fall. Social Studies - We will introduce Jackie Robinson. Hi Families,
We had a busy week learning new things in second grade. To help enhance our unit on stars and their attributes, we had a guest speaker, "Star Expert" from Georgia Tech come answer some of our really tough questions. Fortunately, with my husband being a Tech graduate himself, we have access to some of his really smart friends. Look under the pictures tab to see a few snaps of us learning from him and another lesson about stars and relative distance from later in the week. This week, we have lots of fun activities coming up! Our administration team has planned some fun festive attire days. They are as follows: Monday: Selfie w/a Elfie (We have an elf we will take a picture with in the room) Tuesday: Sparkle & Shine Day (Wear glitter and sequins) and class winter party Thursday: Crazy Holiday Attire and early release day Friday: PJ Day and early release day On Tuesday this week, we will have our class winter party from 10:50-11:40. Wow! It is already November! This year is FLYING by! We had another fun week. The Tritt-Mazing Race was fun and the kids showed excellent sportsmanship and flexibility! I am so proud of them. Our room parents also planned fun "Fall Centers" for the kids on Thursday! You can see pictures of the week under the pictures tab! :) This upcoming week, we have a few changes to our schedule. As you probably know, there is no school for the kids on Tuesday, due to election day. On Friday, we have a Pep Rally to celebrate Tritt becoming a Blue Ribbon School. The following week, we have a Veterans Day Celebration. Please see below for information on Veterans Day: Veteran’s Day Celebration at Tritt Elementary Do you know a Veteran that plays a role in life of a Tritt Student? We would like to invite them to join us in a celebration program in their honor on November 11th from 8:15am-9:00am. You will hear from our Boy Scouts, Tritt Tiger Chorus, and a Keynote Speaker! We are looking forward to thanking the Veterans for their service. If your Veteran is able to join us, we ask that you fill out this online RSVP by November 7th to ensure we have enough space set up for all of our guests. There will be a light breakfast following the program. In addition, we are compiling a picture slideshow of all Veterans represented at Tritt Elementary. If you have a picture of a Veteran, whether they are able to attend our event or not, please send it to [email protected]. Please note in your email who is in the picture, their branch of service, and their relationship to Tritt Elementary. For example, Commander Jonathan Ford, Navy, Father of Griffin and Rachel Ford. If you have any questions, please reach out to assistant principal Adam Casey. Have a great week! Hi everyone! We had a fun week in second grade last week! We built devices that change in speed and direction. Check out pictures of this under the pictures tab, or see us talk about our devices on SeeSaw! Thank you for your understanding about the race having to be rescheduled. Hopefully we will have a nice day on Wednesday. We would still love for you to cheer us on if you are able but understand that it is hard to rearrange schedules. On Thursday for Halloween, we will have a school-wide "hat day!" We will have a fun day as that is also our Fall Centers. Our room parents have planned a fun activity. Congratulations to Grace Anne! She was chosen from our class for the Tigers' Promise Pawsitive award. Grace Anne consistently follows Tigers’ Promise and is always kind and ready to learn. Unfortunately, Mrs. Bourg and I could only choose one class representative, but we have quite a few who are consistently exhibiting kindness! We are lucky teachers :) Hope everyone had a great weekend!
